Ruth, the Moabite, became King David's great-grandma by her faithfulness to the Israelites. After the death of Naomi's sons, she was the loyal daughter-in-law who clung to Naomi and followed Yahweh, the God of Israel, giving up her complete heritage and lifestyle unlike Orpah the other daughter-in-law who separated from Naomi never to be heard of again. At the end of her book, Ruth becomes Boaz' wife and Obed's mother. The Book of Ruth has 4 chapters which entails the story of a virtuous woman in a wicked culture. It was written sometime after the period of the judges (1375-1050 B.C.). The setting is during a time when the Israelites lived to self-please rather than God-please. The author of Ruth is unknown today, although some think it might have been Samuel while others agree that it was written after Samuel's death.
